Baliem Valley has since 1991 become the venue for the largest annual cultural festival in the land of Papua. In this valley, the Dani people live in harmony and united in the embrace of the mountains of Papua surrounding beautiful and charming nature. Aside from being a 'home', often used to Baliem Valley into the arena of war by the warring tribes and became the arena of those who slaughter the tribe that fought for the glory proud.

Three mains tribes are inhabiting the Baliem Valley, all are “Melanesian” with black skins and curly hair: The Dani in the base, the Lani to the west and the Yali in the south-east, each with it’s own distinct culture and language (in whole Papua there are more than 250 different languages still spoken today). Many of the people still dress in their traditional way, for example the “Koteka”, or penis gourd, is still sported by many male members of the tribes.The Dani man only use small koteka, the Lani tribes use bigger Koteka, while the Yali have long slender Kotekas and covering their waist with a rattan belt.

In the Baliem Valley festival, usually staged many different kinds of entertainment events, among which shows the War between the Tribe (tribal history), custom appearances dancing, performances Karapan Racing Pigs (Pig Racing), Puradan (game throws the spear into the sphere of rattan which is spins when thrown), Sikoko (puz use Pieces of wood species in throw toward the goals they have been appointed), competition plays a traditional musical wind instrument (Pikon), and various cultural competitions for foreign tourists like throwing spear (Sege) to a target that has been is set correctly and archery (archery target on the banana stem).

Staging a war activities are scheduled for 2 days, with displays of tribal warfare about 26 groups, consisting of 30-50 people per group. Then in a separate area also featuring traditional music game. Pikon traditional music game is that the music created from the bark of which is called in the vernacular "Hite" (bark to bow). While the song being played is an expression of the hearts of the music player in the ring and played to entertain his or her heart or of the listeners.Interestingly, not all of the Baliem valley can play this instrument, because it requires special expertise.

Festival in lombok 2012 : Bau Nyale - capture your sea worms

On 12-13 February 2012 Sasak society, the dominant ethnic group who inhabit Lombok island, West Nusa Tenggara, will hold a traditional ceremony of Bau Nyale, a regular festival which celebrated in Lombok, five days after the full moon day of the 20th or 10th month in traditional Sasak calendar. The word "Bau" in Lombok means catch, while the "Nyale" is a kind of sea worm that only appears on the surface several times a year near the beach.

Bau Nyale Festival is basically as a ritual to catch sea worms that come out at Kuta beach area in certain months. Several worms in green color, brown, orange until red is going out at midnight to early morning when the coastal sea began to recede. These worms are captured, and will be consumed by people of Sasak then cooked and eaten together. According to some explanation from the experts, the worms that captured in this festival are very good for consumption because so rich in protein.

The festival will feature some variety of traditional competitions such as bekayaq, cikolaq, peresean, begambus, unrequited rhyme and paddle boat race. There are also performing arts like colossal drama which talk about Princess Mandalika, shadow puppets, penginang robek and theater legend of Nyale Princess.

Museum Basoeki Abdullah , Painting exhibition 2011 : Jakarta

Kuta Karnival 2011 : “Light Up the World“ , Kuta Bali

Kuta Karnival is held regularly every year since 2003 and managed to siphon attention of the world. The show will be enlivened participants from different countries and backgrounds, such as companies, embassies, community organizations and even individuals. This international activity will contain a variety of exciting activities ranging from opening ceremony, sunset carnivals, food festivals, and music festivals.

The opening ceremony will be enlivened traditional dances, the release of turtles, kite festival, Bali Art, cartoon exhibitions, film screenings, and sand sculpture competition. Sunset Carnival will be filled fashion shows carnivals, cultural paradise, and water sports. Food festival itself will feature an international food fair along Kuta Beach. While the music carnaval carnival will feature awards are enlivened by the Superman Is Dead (Indonesian local group band) , fashion shows, traditional dances, as well as bartenders show. The cultural expressions of Papua’s renowned Asmat Tribe will be the highlight of Indonesia's most eastern island as the Asmat Cultural Festival is scheduled to take place at the Yos Sudarso Field, Asmat District on 20 to 25 October 2011. This year marks the 26th edition of the Asmat Cultural Festival since it was first introduced in 1981. In its previous edition, the Asmat Cultural Festival managed to attract international tourists from Australia, Germany, Japan, and Korea.

The main feature of the festival is obviously the signature wood carving art of the Asmat. The Asmat are known to have the capability of carving wood into fascinating artworks directly without drawing any sketches first. To the Asmat, their woodcarvings are inextricably linked with the spirit world, and therefore, are not principally considered as aesthetic objects. Much of the highly original art of the Asmat is symbolic of warfare, headhunting, and warrior-ancestor veneration. For centuries the Asmat, preoccupied with the necessity of appeasing ancestral spirits, produced a wealth of superbly designed shields, canoes, sculptured figures, and drums. In terms of the model, Asmat carving is very diverse, ranging from human statues, boats, panels, shields, drums, kaswari egg up the pole. Asmat usually adopt the experience and the everyday environment as their carving patterns, such as trees, boats, animals, people who are boating, people who are hunting, and many more. Carving is a living tradition and a ritual that is closely associated with the spirituality of life and respect for ancestors. When the Asmat carve, they do not just make pattern on wood, but they also flow a spirituality of life.

The most special and unique is that every work of sculpture does not have the same or a duplicate because they do not produce the same pattern carved on a large scale. So, if we have one of Asmat carvings with a certain pattern, it is the only one that exists because of Asmat people do not make the same pattern in carving. The form can be the same, such as shields or panels, but about a pattern would be different. That is the uniqueness of Asmat carvings.

To achieve the Asmat, the tourists have to stop in Timika. Followed by plane pioneers headed Ewer District and takes about 45 minutes. From Ewer continued for 20 minute speedboat ride to Agats.

Festival & Travel Mart 2011 : Raja Ampat

Raja Ampat Located off the northwest tip of Bird's Head Peninsula on the island of New Guinea, in Indonesia's West Papua province, Raja Ampat, or the Four Kings, is an archipelago comprising over 1,500 small islands, cays and shoals surrounding the four main islands of Misool, Salawati, Batanta and Waigeo, and the smaller island of Kofiau. It encompasses more than 40,000 km² of land and sea, which also contains Cenderawasih Bay, the largest marine national park in Indonesia. It is a part of the newly named West Papua (province) of Indonesia which was formerly Irian Jaya.

Raja Ampat has a population of 50,000 inhabitants. Most of the work as fishermen and ecotourism, which is developing the last seven years. Raja Ampat Regency who was born in 2003 has a 429,462 hectare conservation area. Raja Ampat consists of four main islands, namely Salawati, Wajeo, Lisol, and Batanta, with 640 islands of Little Raja Ampat . This regions are now become one of the destinations of foreign tourists interested in nautical tourism. Crystal clear waters, coral reefs, which became the spawning fish, and beautiful ornamental fish became the main attraction area.


Raja Ampat traveling destination held more charm to unspoiled , and would be promoted to the international community through the Festival & Raja Ampat Travel Mart which will be held 20 to 23 October 2011 at the Coastal Travel Waisai Raja Ampat. Head of Department of Culture and Tourism Destinations Raja Ampat Regency Ramadei Niko explained that the Festival and Travel Mart this year Raja Ampat is organizing the second times.

Earlier on September 19 to 23 first underwater photography competition held as part of Celebrate the Sea Festival activities in 2011. The participants had the opportunity win a medal for Outstanding Achievement Medals, Merit of Excellence Awards and the Most Influential Shoot Out the Underwater Photographer of the Year with cash and prizes of USD 5000 or about USD 43 million.

The race is intended for novice photographers and filmmakers. Race categories include: Black and White print, Color Print, Portfolio Festival, Trio, Slide Shows, short videos and feature-length documentary.
photographers can capture images directly in Bunaken Marine Park and Lembeh Strait. Photos of the winners will be used for education and conservation areas.

For weekend activities at the Peninsula Hotel Manado Synthesis will be held seminars on marine conservation, climate change related issues, underwater photography workshops, and exhibitions of photography. You can see the underwater beauty of North Sulawesi through the screening of winning films from international film festival, the Underwater World Pictures

International Sea Festival in Manado, is a nonprofit program funded by the OceaNEnvironment Australia, with its main partners are the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Indonesia.
